The Ken & Jean Dance Studio is not a competition-based studio but consistently earns top awards on the national stage. At the Dance Masters of America 2019 Grand National Championships, Ken & Jean Dance Studio took the top award, winning the title of Champion of Champions against more than 1000 entrants. This is the studio’s fourth national title.
This July, 35 of our advanced dancers attended the Dance Masters of America 135th Convention and Competition in Atlanta, Georgia.
More than 250 dance studios and 1000 entries competed for the title of Grand National "Champion of Champions". Over the course of eight days, our students rehearsed, competed, and took four hours of master classes daily.
The week began with the two rounds of competition, in which "You Will Be Found", "Ragtime", "On the Town", and "Chaplin" received seven Platinum Awards and one High Gold Award in their divisions. After these rounds, "Ragtime", "On the Town", and "Chaplin" all were selected to partake in the Grand National Championships, where the top five routines from each division competed to advance. These dances each received 1st place overall awards in the production, extended, and large line divisions, and thus were each awarded the title of "Grand National Champion". As a result, all three earned spots in the most prestigious round of competition, the Grand National Champion of Champions Competition.
In the end, "Chaplin" became the 2019 "Overall Champion of Champions", winning the entire competition for all ages 13 & over. “Chaplin” also received the national overall choreography award for all entrants ages 13 & up. This is the studio’s fourth national title (2006/2009/2017/2019).
