Ken & Jean Dance Studio takes the top award at the Dance Masters of America 2017 Grand National Championships
The Ken & Jean Dance Studio is not a competition-based studio but consistently earns
top awards on the national stage.
This summer, 33 of our advanced dancers attended the Dance Master's of America 133rd Grand National Championships in New Orleans, Louisiana. More than 250 dance studios and 600 entries competed for the title of Grand National "Champion of Champion". Over the course of eight days, our students rehearsed, competed, and took four hours of master classes daily.
The week began with the two rounds of competition, in which "Love Hope Grace", "Les Miserablés", "Chopsticks", and "Fascinating Bellhops" all received Platinum Awards, the highest possible preliminary awards, in their divisions. After these rounds, "Fascinating Bellhops" and "Chopsticks" both were selected to partake in the Grand National Championships, where the top five routines from each division competed to advance. Both then received 1st place in the production and large line divisions, and thus were each awarded the title of "Grand National Champion". This then earned them spots in the most prestigious round of competition, the Grand National Champion of Champions Competition.
In the end, "Chopsticks" earned the national overall choreography award for all entrants ages 13 & up. "Fascinating Bellhops" became the 2017 "Overall Champion of Champions". They won the entire competition for all ages 13 & over.
